TV Remote is an Android app that controls a television from your phone. It has no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics. This policy covers the app only; the website has its own privacy policy.
What We Collect
Nothing. The app has no server behind it. No information about you or your device is transmitted to us or to any third party.
What the App Stores on Your Phone
The following is kept in your phone's encrypted app storage. It stays on the phone, and no copy is sent anywhere:
- Pairing credentials — the certificate and private key that identify the app to your television.
- Your television — its name and network address.
- App shortcuts — the TV apps you chose to keep on the remote.
- Recent searches — search terms you sent to the TV, so they can be re-sent with one tap.
- Theme preference — light or dark.
- Haptics preference — whether key presses vibrate.
Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes all of it. Search terms can also be deleted one at a time, or all at once, from the keyboard screen.
What the App Sends, and Where
The app talks only to your television, over your own local network, using the television's own remote-control protocol. It sends the button presses, text and volume changes you make. It uses local network discovery (mDNS) to find televisions by name. Nothing leaves your network.
Permissions
- Internet — to open a connection to your television on the local network. The app makes no connections to the internet.
- Wi-Fi multicast — to discover televisions on your network.
The app requests no access to the microphone, camera, contacts, location or files. Dictation, if you use it, is performed by your phone's own keyboard under its own privacy policy; the app receives only the text your keyboard produces, exactly as if you had typed it.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version appears at this address with a new date above.
